Payment terminals & card readers
POS Terminal & Card Reader Options
The right payment device depends on where customers pay and how the transaction reaches your records. ProudPay helps you connect with specialists to discuss terminal options for your business.
No obligation. No guaranteed approval.

Choose the right role for the terminal
Describe whether staff enter an amount on a separate device or whether your checkout software should send it automatically. Explain the counter layout, number of stations, receipt requirements, and any need to take the device to a customer.
If you already own equipment, share its exact model and current provider. Confirm that the device can be used with a proposed account before assuming it can be reconfigured. Ownership of a terminal does not by itself establish compatibility.
Compare more than the purchase price
Ask for a clear description of the equipment and the agreement behind it.
- Supported payment methods and connection requirements
- Compatibility with your checkout or business software
- Purchase, rental, or lease terms and any minimum commitment
- Software updates, replacement, and warranty responsibilities
- Receipts, refunds, settlement reports, and staff permissions
- Support availability when your business is open
Test the everyday tasks
Before rollout, have the provider demonstrate a sale, a refund, a declined payment, and end-of-day reporting. Ask how transactions are reconciled if your connection or software is interrupted. Confirm all equipment and recurring charges in writing.
Explore payment terminals and merchant account options with our partners. Ask about equipment compatibility, ongoing support, and the account terms that apply to your business.
Common questions
Is a terminal the same thing as a full POS system?
Not always. A payment terminal may primarily collect payments, while a POS can include ordering, inventory, and other functions. Confirm exactly what is included.
Will buying a terminal open a merchant account?
No. Equipment selection and merchant account eligibility are separate questions. Confirm the account and compatibility requirements before buying hardware.
